Behavioral Health Consultant

The Primary Care Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC) provides a range of services inclusive of primary care behavioral health, crisis management, and coordination of care to patients as part of the integrated health team at an El Rio Health location assigned by management. In this role the incumbent provides evidence-based health behavior assessment and intervention and coordination of care related to acute and/or chronic medical health conditions, mental health conditions, life stressors, motivational barriers to healthy lifestyle, and/or other identifiable behavioral health concerns.

In addition, the BHC coordinates behavioral health care with the primary care medical and behavioral health teams and promotes ongoing collaboration and cohesiveness between those teams to ensure delivery of whole health care to patients. The BHC works as a valuable member of the multidisciplinary team that cares for the patient.  BHCs deliver a range of interventions consistent and appropriate to the clinic setting, model of care, and role assigned including but not limited to Motivational Interviewing, Solution focused therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness and acceptance strategies, psycho­ education, Trauma-informed and other therapeutic approaches applied within the primary care behavioral health setting. Depending upon the skills and qualifications of the BHC and the needs of the organization, additional services may include the clinical supervision of non-independently licensed providers toward independent licensure.
